Another way to help a child understand and comprehend what he or she is reading is by having them read and then at the end of a chapter or a few pages write what they have read about thus far. It helps them pay attention to what they are reading knowing that they will have to sum it up at the end of a chapter or a few pages. You can use post its or have them start a reading journal. :)
