ENGLISH EXPERIENCE:
I am an experienced educator with eight years of teaching in the classroom. While pursuing my degree in English education, I discovered many college students struggled with writing. So I began researching the reason so many graduate high school without the necessary writing skills. After writing and presenting an extensive research paper on the subject, I became known as the unofficial writing tutor on campus: I helped a lot of my peers with their papers, and they went from scoring "Ds" and "Cs" to "Bs" and "As." I graduated college with honors and scored in the top 3% in the nation on the English Praxis exam, an exam for prospective teachers.
After graduating college, I have spent the past eight years of my life teaching English both in junior high and high school. While working at a local junior high, my principal called me the best English teacher she has ever seen, parents called in to praise my methods, and students reported an increase in writing ability, critical thinking, and analytic skills. Several of my honors students proclaimed my class the first English class to challenge them and teach them new skills daily, and I heard from parents that my students were teaching their older siblings and others the skills they learned in my class. Moreover, while working in public education, I was selected to teach professional development courses to other teachers on various topics: critical reading strategies, the art of teaching writing, and student engagement.
I do specialize in writing and grammar; however, I also feel capable teaching reading comprehension, reading analysis, and public speaking skills.
MATH EXPERIENCE
In school, I was two grade levels ahead in math as I tested into pre-algebra in elementary school. In high school and college, I tutored others in pre-algebra, algebra I, algebra II, and college algebra.
