Work and re-work the information in multiple ways: anticipate essay questions from your notes and write the answers in advance; create timelines and comparative charts of historical information; create lists of testable terms from memory and see what you are missing; explain a difficult concept to another person (there is no better way to uncover what you do NOT know by having to verbalize your understanding).
